The Laser Close-In Weapon System Shoots Planes with Death Rays

Laser Close-In Weapon System

Brace yourselves for a brave new world with the Laser Close-In Weapon System. This death ray canon is similar to something straight out of ‘Star Wars.’ Created to shoot down planes, it was ironically unveiled at an airshow in England.
Developed by American defense firm Raytheon, the Laser Close-In Weapon System is not a new concept. Back in the 1950s, scientists envisioned a future of high-tech laser weapons. However, it took many years of elaborate advancement for these ideas to take off. Presently, this Laser Close-In Weapon System is a great example of one of those designs

Aircraft Carrier Travel Terminals CF Moller Architects Designs a Ferry Terminal ith Military Spin

CF Moller Architects

CF Moller Architects has designed a new ferry terminal for Stockholm that pays homage to the military in a big way. Its new terminal, shaped as an aircraft carrier, is an awesome and ironic tribute.
The new terminal may not look like a carrier from inside, but from above it is plain to see the military influence. CF Moller Architects claims the new terminal will be eco-friendly as it will rely upon solar and wind power generators. If you like this carrier-shaped terminal, be sure to click on the links to see more from CF Moller Architects.

Automated Aircraft Carrier Landings When Will Robots Completely Take Over?

Automated Aircraft Carrier Landings

Landing a fighter plane on an aircraft carrier has always been highly dangerous as the ship is constantly moving on a heaving ocean.  The task of guiding the approach and landing the aircraft would be made easier with a computer aided system. However, the signals between the ship and plane are subject to interference and jamming.
James Waid and colleagues from Honeywell International (US) have just patented a new system which employs GPS satellites to plot the relative velocity and position of both the aircraft and the ship. An additional feature of the system includes the ability to extrapolate the data forward in time to predict if the pilot can safely land his plane or whether he should abort the landing.

Aircraft Carrier Auctions The HMS Invincible is Put Up for Sale to the Public

HMS Invincible

If I wasn’t a starving student, I would put in a bid on the HMS Invincible. The British Navy is auctioning off the decommissioned aircraft carrier publicly to the highest bidder.
The HMS Invincible will probably be bought by someone wanting to use it as a museum, but I am hoping for a different outcome. I would love to see a rich entrepreneur buy the HMS Invincible and sail it all around the world. There is no price listed for the ship, but I imagine it will cost a pretty penny or two.
